Brewlab is a leading provider of training and analysis services for the international brewing industry. It was established in 1986 at the University of Sunderland and became independent in 2008.

School established: 1986, offering training, analyses and brewing yeast services to individuals and the brewing industry

Programmes offered:

  • British Brewing Technology (Diploma); 9 weeks theory and practical instruction
  • Practical Brewing (Certificate); 3 weeks incorporating a week of practical skills
  • Three day Start Up Brewing course for new entrants to the industry
  • Four day Brewing Skills Development course for brewery staff who want to keep their knowledge and skills updated
  • Four day intensive Practical Brewing Skills course for new entrants to the micro brewing industry
  • One day workshops include Microbiology and Small Scale Bottling. There is also a flavour evaluation programme and support for off-site study
  • Practical Brewing and British Brewing Technology courses are accredited by the Open College Network
  • Distance learning support for IBD Diploma level qualifications

Accommodation: Student self-catering accommodation is available for longer courses at the University of Sunderland
Facilities: 3.5 barrel showpiece brewery, 100 litre pilot training brewery and 25 litre mini breweries. Small scale bottling and keg processing equipment. Analysis laboratories and dedicated teaching rooms.
