New look Carlsberg tab: first market of many?

Cut out celebrates Carlsberg brand history, ingredients

Norway’s Ringnes is the first of perhaps many Carlsberg Group operating companies to enhance the look of their canned Carlsberg.

Working with can supplier Rexam, a bespoke cut-out pull tab has been created, showing Carlsberg’s original hop leaf logo. The logo dates back to 1904, with it designed by Danish artist Thorvald Bindesboll.

Carlsberg senior innovation manager Girogio Grimaldi commented, “The hop leaf is a symbol of quality and purity of the ingredients that go into making the best beer in the world. Rexam offered us an innovative and unique way to incorporate it into our can design, providing us with a bespoke product with great stand out on the shelf.”

The new look will appear on both 33cl and 50cl cans. If deemed successful, it may well be rolled out into other Carlsberg markets.

The new look pull tab is being manufactured by Rexam in the Recklinghausen and Mont plants.
