O-I launches champagne style bottle
A new excitement for premium, craft beers
O-I is introducing a bottle with a champagne-style shape into regular production in the UK. The objective is clear-cut: to provide another point of difference for brewers for their premium and craft beers.
The amber glass bottles have a 500ml capacity and are lightweight at 300g. With a base diameter of 74mm and a height of 246mm, the long-neck bottles are described as suitable for existing filling lines with very little adaptation required. A 26mm crown closure, familiar to most UK and continental brewers, is required.
Scott Gibb, O-I’s commercial lead in the UK, noted that in a premium bottled ale segment crowed with new entrants that shelf standout is more important than ever to commercial success.
“These new beers have to differentiate themselves and brewers are on the lookout for innovative, brand-building packaging to present their products to consumers in perfect condition. Our new development provides premium quality and appearance in a very accessible format.”
The bottle is being manufactured at O-I’s plant in Harlow, England. While is it being targeted at the UK premium beer market, as a European standard it is available across O-I’s sales and distribution network.
