Rexam launches in Finland

Can-maker Rexam has opened its first Finnish plant
Mäntsälä, in the country's southern region, is the setting for Rexam's first Finnish manufacturing plant. Developing the plant will cost the can-maker £68m over three years and will provide work for 100 local people, the company has announced.
The first of two planned production lines was inaugurated yesterday by chief executive Graham Chipchase. The second line is due to be up and running next year - its completion will give the plant a capacity of approximately 1.35bn 330ml and 500ml cans. According to Rexam, the Nordic can market is in growth, with Finland witnessing a steady transiton from glass bottle to can fillings.
"We have seen a growing demand for beverage cans in Finland and the Baltic States, in particular the can's share of the pack mix for beer in Finland, which has grown from 10% to 60% over the past five years", said Chipchase.
The new plant reflects Rexam's plans for growth within a steadily expanding European market, he added.
