Stone in Berline: 20,000hl expected in first year

Marcus Thieme joins from Jägermeister

Stone Brewing has filled a leadership void in its expanding operations with the appointment of Marcus Thieme as its first vice president & general manager of its European operations.

Thieme joins from Jägermeister where he has held various leadership positions for the past 16 years, most recently as Chief Marketing Officer for a Jägermeister subsidiary in the United States, Sidney Frank Importing Co. He has a degree in business economics from the International Business School in Lippstadt, Germany and speaks four languages – English, German, Spanish and Russian.

Thieme will report directly to Stone Brewing CEO Derek Engels and co-founder and executive chairman Greg Koch.

Engels described Thieme as the perfect match for Stone’s operations in Berlin, where its brewhouse and World Bistro & Gardens began operations in the fourth quarter of 2016, and across Europe. “Not only does he have an impressive track record, but he also brings a proven and vast experience in building brands in the US, across international markets and especially in Europe.”

Stone Brewing reported in May that its Berlin brewery is on pace to produce 20,000 hectolitres during its first year of operation. Their 25 million USD investment includes a Krones supplied 100 hectolitre brewhouse, cold cellar, filtration system and a canning line. With 24 filling valves, the line is rated at 16,000cph. Krones has also installed a 10hl MicroCube brewing system.
