Bavaria enters gluten-free market

National Dutch brewer partners with country's celiac association
National Dutch brewer Bavaria has launched a gluten-free variant of its Premium Pilsner, citing demand not only from those afflicted by celiac disease but increasingly those who simply prefer gluten-free products.
The beer is the result of a collaboration between Bavaria’s brewers and the Dutch Celiac Association (NCV). The barley used has reduced levels of gluten, with Bavaria’s resulting beer making use of the gluten-free logo of the NCV.
“As consumer needs change we must constantly keep thinking about innovations,” said Ralph Bongaerts, Bavaria’s marketing manager for the Netherlands. “We are proud that together we have been able to expand our portfolio with NCV and consumers with celiac disease or consumers who consciously choose gluten-free also can now enjoy our beer.”
Bavaria Premium Pilsner Gluten-Free is described as having a fresh and fruity taste balanced by subtle hoppy notes offering a lightly bitter finish. The beer came on to the market in November in the Netherlands.
