Hops & Barley: 50 IBUs offer an American bite

Release is third in its world craft beer series

Saku Brewery has launched an American style red ale in Estonia, in response to increased demand for hop heavy flavours.

It is the third in a series of Hops & Barley (Humal Ja Oder) releases from the wholly-owned Carlsberg subsidiary. The first two – a Czech Pilsner and a Viennese lager-beer – have reportedly been well received by the Baltic State’s beer enthusiasts.

Saku Brewery's head brewmaster Tarmo Tappo said, "The beer culture development in Estonia has reached a point where people seek distinctive flavours and special beers."

The new beer is unfiltered and top fermented. It boasts 50 IBUs, is derived from Chinook hops for bittering, with additions of Cascade and Centennial for their aroma qualities. It is 5% ABV and is sold in 330ml glass bottles.
