Gutmann installs CIP upgrade
Bavarian brewer cuts water use, improves utilisation
Gutmann Brewery, a family-owned Bavarian wheat beer specialist, has upgraded its CIP abilities thanks to a new automated system supplied by GEA Brewery Systems.
The upgrade allows for combined vessel and pipe cleaning – Gutmann’s previous system required that the vessels be cleaned prior to the pipes. The new system also makes it possible for production processes and CIP cleaning to take place in the brewhouse simultaneously, resulting in better equipment utilisation, especially in peak periods.
Economically friendly environmental savings have been achieved: GEA Brewery Systems reports that 18% less water, 30% less caustic concentrate and 23.8% less acid concentrate is now required. There have also been energy savings. For each complete CIP process 67.52 kWh is required by the new system compared to 79.83 kWh gobbled by the old system.
GEA Brewery Systems took four months to install the system following preparation of the concept and order placement. The CIP system has been completely integrated into the existing process control system.
The Gutmann Brewery has been family owned and operated since 1835, with wheat beer produced in Titting since 1913. The brewery’s environmental management system is DIN EN ISO 14001:2004 certified, with one of the objectives a continuous reduction of energy and water consumption.
