Sweden: A 'most important export market'

Almost 2 million sold last year

Czech brewer Plzensky Prazdroj has reported a two-fold sales increase of its Gambrinus brand in Sweden, shifting 10,000 hectolitres in the country last year.

The firm said the figure, equating to almost 2 million beers, represents a doubling of volumes since 1996. Prazroj said two thirds of sales were in draught form, thanks largely to a listing with Swedish pub chain The Bishop Arms.

“Sweden is one of the most important countries of export for Gambrinus,” said senior Gambrinus brand manager Jiri Rakosnik, adding the lion’s share of Swedish sales is of the ‘12%’ brand variation.

“The 12% has found its home, so to speak, in the north. That is due to its composition and its taste.”

Gambrinus is the Czech Republic’s best selling beer. Prazdroj, a subsidiary of SABMiller, is the country’s largest brewer, producing four of the republic’s five biggest beer brands.
