Olympic's finest: 30% market share in 90,000 outlets

Acquires remaining minority stake of Greece’s #2 brewer

Carlsberg Group has tidied up its position in Greece, this week acquiring the remaining 49% of shares in Olympic, the country’s second largest brewer.

Olympic, which was formed in 2014 following a merger of Greek rivals Mythos and Olympic, claims a 30% market share. It has two breweries, in Thessaloniki and Euboea, with a combined capacity of 2.2 million hectolitres.

Carlsberg Group CEO Cees’t Hart commented, “Olympic Brewery is a historic Greek company and a very strong player in the Greek market. It is thus a positive and logical next step.”

The purchase price has not been disclosed.

Olympic brews Greek brands such as Mythos, Mythos Radler, FIX Helos, FIX Alcohol Free, FIX Dark, Kaiser and Henniger. It also distributes Carlsberg Group brands Carlsberg, Tuborg and Somersby cider.

The company distributes its brands to 90,000 points of sale in Greece with 2,000 partners and suppliers. Its brands are exported to 40 countries worldwide.
