Open for business: 425,000hl initial capacity

Greenfield brewery commissioned in Andhra Pradesh

Carlsberg, a relative newcomer in India yet one with big ambitions, this week celebrated the commissioning of its fifth brewery in the country.

The greenfield brewery is in Andhra Pradesh state, located at Medak, 50 kilometres from Hyderabad.

It has an initial annual capacity of 425,000 hectolitres, with employment approaching 200 people. The estimated cost is US $30 million.

“The opening of the Hyderabad brewery reaffirms Carlsberg’s robust expansion plans for India,” commented Carlsberg India managing director Soren Lauridsen. “The vision of Carlsberg in India is to become the leading player in the market, by offering premium international quality brands to Indian consumers.”

Carlsberg entered the Indian market in 2007. It operates breweries in four other states: Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

The new brewery will produce Carlsberg’s entire portfolio in the country – Carlsberg, Tuborg Green, Tuborg Strong and Palone.

Tuborg Strong was launched this summer. Both it and Tuborg Green boast a pull-off cap that does not need a bottle opener.
