Meantime's existing Greenwich plant

Brewer signs lease on new site

London brewer Meantime is set to invest £1.5 million in a new brewery that will eventually quadruple the firm’s annual production.

The brewer today announced the signing of a lease on premises just a short walk from its current Greenwich facility. The new 30,000 square foot site will house a fully automated 50hl brewhouse set for commissioning next August.

“This major investment will secure the future of Meantime and the jobs of our employees by enabling us to streamline our production and satisfy the growing demand for our beer…” said Meantime founder and brewmaster Alastair Hook.

The firm’s capacity will be doubled by the opening of the new Blackwall Lane site next year. Meantime says the new facility will eventually allow the brewer to quadruple its current annual production of 12,000 hl.

Meantime, which is yet to appoint a supplier for the development, said the project will raise the firm’s profile in the capital and “make Londoners proud once more of their great brewing heritage”.

In March Meantime will open its new £6.5 million brew-pub and restaurant – complete with an 8hl brewery – at the Discover Greenwich Complex at the Royal Naval College. This plant will serve as the R&D facility for the brewer.
